Abstract/Summary
Several archaeological features were found during an initial watching brief on a plot south of Scarletwell Street which led to small archaeological strip, map and record of the southern part of the area. During the excavations, further medieval features were revealed together with remains of 19th‐century buildings. No archaeology was found on the smaller plot to the north. The Site was a construction site for social housing on two plots of land on either side of Scarletwell Street both bordered by St Andrew’s Road (A5095) to the west, approximately half a kilometre north‐west of the historic centre of Northampton. The larger plot fronted Lower Bath Street and contained garages and a grass lawn. The garages were demolished prior to the works and the rubble was used to level up the western and northern parts of the site.
