Abstract/Summary

MOLA was commissioned by Bell Plantation Garden Centre to undertake an archaeological trial trench evaluation of a car park on land at the Bell Plantation. One trench was excavated of which revealed ditches and pits. Elements from one probable inhumation burial were identified. After approval from the NCAA the burial was left in situ. The features are divided into two groups. The more eastern group, comprising three ditches and two pits, lay on slightly higher, drier ground. The ditches were oriented north to south or north-west to south-east. After a gap the westerly group lay downslope in much wetter conditions. The pottery has given the ditches and pits a tight date span, from the late 1st to the 2nd century AD.
