Abstract/Summary

On 1st July 2019 Oxford Archaeology East (OA East) monitored work ahead of the laying of a replacement water main to the north of Hardwick Road, between Hardwick village and the A43, centred on NGR SP 483 270. The monitoring works consisted of observation, investigation, recording, analysis and publication (OIRAP) monitoring along the western edge of an arable field for the area where the route of the new pipe crossed the line of a possible undated trackway (MNN118413) that had been identified as cropmarks from aerial photographs. No archaeological features or artefacts were identified. The stripping of the trench for the replacement pipe revealed only the cut of the old pipe being replaced. Located on the possible trackway, this suggests that the identified cropmarks were in fact the easement and trench of this old watermain.
