Abstract/Summary

A level 2 historic building survey was carried out looking at the retained World War II airfield infrastructure buildings on land to the south of Welford Road, Sibbertoft (Sulby parish), Northamptonshire. The survey was commissioned by ADM Surveyors Limited from University of Leicester Archaeological Services(ULAS) in advance of a proposed new development to build a single dwelling whilst retaining the existing structures. The site consists of a rectangular area of land of approximately 27378m2 to the south of Welford Road. A British Concrete Federation modular hut, a Stanton air raid shelter and two blast shelters survive on the site along with a brick retaining wall belonging to a fuel compound and a transformer plinth. A number of former building bases and roadways are also still present. The buildings formed WAAF Communal and Quarters Site Number 1 which was part of a dispersed site serving RAF Husbands Bosworth. Following the end of the war the site was used as a camp for displaced Polish families until 1958. The site has been unused since that date. At the time of building survey the site was unused. The report and archive will be deposited under Event Number ENN109899.
