Abstract/Summary

A late 17th-century cottage was joined in 1710 to a four-square gentrified building comprising four polite rooms and a service range. All three progressed as a genteel residence with service wings to either side. Around 1730 some alterations to the fenestration left the frontage more private and unified the interiors with a notable range of panelling. Just before 1810, to judge by the neat and sensible stair detailing and the evidence of the historic maps, a rear wing was added to the service range, probably to ensure servants to live in. The buildings were the subject of sales in the 1880s but not formally separated off until c1895. They have now been reunited and an opportunity exists to make alterations to return the buildings to its original function.
