Abstract/Summary

A programme of Historic Building Recording was undertaken by Witham Archaeology in advance of proposed alterations to a group of historic farm buildings at Lime Grange, Wakerley Road, Harringworth, Northamptonshire. The project was commissioned by Kaybee Developments Ltd in response to a condition attached to planning permission granted by East Northamptonshire District Council (16/00131/FUL) and in accordance with Listed Building Consent (16/00649/LBC). Historic map evidence indicates that the buildings were formerly part of a farmstead named as Lime Farm, together with a barn (now Lime Grange and converted to residential use) and a stable and granary (now Tallat Barn – also converted to residential use) on Wakerley Road. Lime Grange and Tallat Barn have together been designated as Grade II listed building (Heritage List No. 1233906). The recorded buildings are laid out in a T-shaped arrangement, comprising a south range with the derelict remains of a traditional threshing barn to the east and a probable cattle shelter to the west, and a north-to-south single-storey range extending to the north. The latter range probably contained housing for cattle. All of the buildings covered by the survey can be correlate with structures shown on the Ordnance Survey 1:2500 map of 1886
