Abstract/Summary
In June 2020 and January 2021 Historic Building Recording was carried out at outbuildings to the rear of 15 Chancery Lane, Thrapston in order to fulfill planning conditions for the development of the building. Both buildings are likely to be of 18th century date, although Cottage 2 is clearly the older of the two. Cottage 2 was originally purely residential but was converted in the later 19th century to provide stabling and a hayloft to the west of living quarters, presumably for the tenant or servant. Cottage 1 presents a more functional façade to the north although this had clearly been altered on more than one occasion. From initially being a self-contained structure, it was reconfigured in the late 19th century, so that the eastern end was directly accessible from Number 15, and the ground floor became incorporated within the living quarters of Cottage 2.
