Abstract/Summary
In February 2021, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land at Silverstone Race Track, Silverstone, Towcester, Northamptonshire. A total of 16 trenches were excavated. The evaluation recorded a small number of pits in Trenches 12 and 14. Although undated artefactually, these features are believed to be modern in date. They contained fragments of branches and twigs and appeared to have been deliberately backfilled. Also recorded was a shallow, irregular pit filled with burnt material, which probably represents burnt-out tree roots. No other archaeological features were recorded at the site. It was clear from the presence of plastic netting in the topsoil layer that least some modern ground disturbance had taken place, although the depth of truncation associated with this was not clear.
