Abstract/Summary
This collection comprises images from a programme of archaeological investigation undertaken by MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) within the churchyard of the Church of St Mary, Everdon, Northamptonshire in July 2020. Work was carried out during the replacement and enhancement of external drainage within the churchyard. The Church of St Mary, Everdon, is a Grade I Listed Building, dating to the early 14th century. Settlement remains of the medieval period lie in the landscape to the south and east of the church. Four burials and a deposit of disarticulated bone were observed, one of which had been truncated by a pipe trench. Three of the burials were articulated and lying on an east to west alignment. One disarticulated burial and a disarticulated bone deposit were found close to the north-west footpath and had been disturbed and reinterred during the rebuilding of the footpath during the 20th century. The burials represent common burial practices of the medieval and post-medieval period. The burials form one of the final phases of interment in the area immediately surrounding the church before the graveyard was extended to the south. No grave cuts were visible in section and no charnel was encountered, suggesting that the grounds had been raised during landscaping after the burials had taken place.
