Abstract/Summary
MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) was commissioned by RPS Group PLC, on behalf of Morris Homes, to undertake an archaeological excavation and strip, map and sample on land at Upton Park south of Weedon Road, Northampton. The excavation areas targeted known anomalies identified during the previous geophysical survey and trial trench evaluation. Archaeological remains included a barrow monument, early Bronze Age pit, late Bronze Age to early Iron Age pits as part of two sinuous pit alignments with associated recut ditches in certain locations, and a Roman trackway within the western part of the development area. Medieval drainage ditches and field systems relating to part of the medieval settlement of Upton lay within the eastern part of the development area.
