Abstract/Summary
This report describes the results of archaeological monitoring and recording carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology at Badby Road, Daventry between the 15th and 23rd January. Anglian Water commissioned the work, and the archaeological monitoring and recording took place during groundworks along the proposed route for a water pipe. The aim of the work was to identify, investigate and record any archaeological finds or features on the proposed water main route. The site was split into two areas: Area 1 and Area 2. A linear area was excavated in Area 1 and two test pits were excavated in Area 2. Contaminated ground was discovered in Area 2; this meant that the groundworks and archaeological monitoring had to be postposned until the contamination was cleared. Due to a miscommunication PCA were not called out to monitor the groundworks in Area 2 once the contamination had been cleared. No significant archaeological finds or features were uncovered during the monitoring and recording. The only observed features were two modern features cut into the subsoil: a possible furrow in Area 1 and a possible drainage ditch in Area 2.
