Abstract/Summary

This document is an archaeological standing building survey and heritage impact assessment of outbuildings at Chinner Farm, Thorpe Road, Chacombe, Northamptonshire (NGR SP 50092 43942), commissioned from Archaeological Building Recording Services (ABRS) by Thenhurst Agricultural Ltd in advance of the proposed conversion of the buildings to residential use. The buildings originated as a post enclosure outfarm, part of the Thenford Estate, cartographic sources indicate that the buildings are the remnants of a larger farmstead. The buildings are fairly common Northamptonshire farm buildings, a fodder barn and a potentially 18th or early 19th century stable with a loft over. The buildings are not designated heritage assets, the historic building recording has concluded that the buildings are likely to be considered as non-designated heritage assets. The proposed works will ensure that the outbuildings are sympathetically conserved and converted to residential use. The historic building recording will mitigate the impact of the proposed works on the buildings. The retention of some of the modern buildings will preserve the current plan-form of the site and it will remain as an identifiable former agricultural site. The archive will be retained by ABRS under the site code 2022-CFCN until deposition with an appropriate depository can be arranged.
