Abstract/Summary

MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) was commissioned to undertake a geophysical survey at ‘John O’Gaunt’s Castle’, on the southern edge of Daventry, Northamptonshire. The site had once contained the remains of a large medieval building (possibly a moated lodge rather than a castle), but this was thought to have been severely damaged or destroyed by 19th-century clay digging. The results of MOLA’s magnetometer and earth resistance surveys, along with topographic observations, confirmed that the site had seen much disturbance. No archaeological features were identified and the archaeological potential of the site appeared to be, at best, very limited.
