Abstract/Summary

Orion Heritage, on behalf of Lightrock Power, commissioned Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd to conduct a 182 50m long trial trench evaluation of the site. The trial trenching was in advance of the determination of a planning application for the development of a solar farm. Archaeological remains dating to the later middle Iron Age period were recorded in fifteen trenches ( 34, 36, 37, 38, 44, 47, 58, 59, 60, 70, 71, 115, 117, 118, 158) spread across five fields. They represent the remains of a dispersed settlement pattern and is part of a wider Iron Age landscape in the area. Medieval ridge and furrow was found in the majority of trenches across the PDA. It was poorly preserved depth of the furrows investigated did not exceed 0.10m.
