Abstract/Summary

MOLA Northampton was commissioned by RPS Consulting LTD to undertake a program of Archaeological Observation, Investigation, Recording, Analysis and Publication on land known as Parcel 43 of the Stanton Cross development, east of Wellingborough, in support of the application for the development of a cricket pitch. Work comprised mechanical excavation of a 30m by 10m area designed to determine the presence of a ditch previously identified via geophysical survey. The ditch was present and was dated to the Roman period. As a standalone feature, the ditch cannot meaningfully contribute to the regional research agenda, but when considered as a whole with already completed and future work, it should be possible to contribute to understanding of the use of the landscape, particularly in the Roman period.
