Abstract/Summary
MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) Northampton undertook a trial trench evaluation on land at Rockingham Forest Park, Kings Cliffe, Northamptonshire. The trenching uncovered a series of ditches, possibly associated with late Iron Age/Roman but more likely medieval agricultural exploitation of the landscape, along with a number of furrows of medieval/post-medieval date. In addition to the linear features, two undated, possible tree throw pits were also recorded, which may have been associated with woodland clearance prior to agricultural exploitation of the landscape, possibly as early as the later prehistoric period. There appeared to have been significant horizontal truncation across significant areas of the site, associated with the development of the RAF King’s Cliffe airfield complex and possibly also its demolition and clearance.
