Abstract/Summary
Between May 2022 and August 2022 KDK Archaeology LTD undertook a Strip, Map and Sample excavation of the land West of the A43, Moulton, Northamptonshire. This investigation was undertaken as a requirement under the terms of NPPF and has been defined in a brief by (NNC 2021) in advance of the development of a secondary school with outdoor sports facilities, access, parking, landscaping and drainage. This works followed a programme of Geophysical Survey and Archaeological Evaluation. The excavation covered the field designated for the sport pitches, south of the proposed school buildings in an area of approximately 2 hectares. The features present, included 7 un-urned cremations, and several, apparently unrelated though undated, long, narrow, parallel boundary gullies, cut by furrows, suggesting two phases of use; firstly as a Bronze Age cemetary site and later as an agricultural site sometime after the Bronze Age but before the Medieval period. Few other artefacts, were recovered suggesting that the site was at the periphery of a settlement in for both phases of use.
