Abstract/Summary

In May 2023, an archaeological excavation was undertaken on the remains of a Roman villa situated on land near Nobottle, Northamptonshire, centred on NGR SP 68197 63308. A previous evaluation had confirmed the presence of a Roman villa, with a number of walls recorded across the trench. The excavation revealed a further series of walls, relating to at least two separate wings of a villa building. The construction style and orientation of the walls suggested that the villa had been expanded and remodelled on at least four occasions. The artefact data suggested occupation during the 2nd to 4th centuries. Further work is planned for the site in order to record more of the villa plan, refine the dates of occupation, and determine how the villa evolved over time. Further work will also allow for more evidence of the post-Roman occupation of the site to be recorded.
