Abstract/Summary

In April 2023 MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) was commissioned by West Northamptonshire Council to undertake an archaeological test pit evaluation on land adjacent to Chalk Lane Car Park, the site of the inner bailey of the former Northampton Castle. The works were designed to establish the depth below ground level, and extent, of possible stonework of the core of the east wall of a major room in the former Northampton Castle, which had been previously observed in this area. Five test pits were excavated which established the depth below ground level of walls that possibly related to the castle.
