Description

Five test pits were excavated which established the depth below ground level of a possible wall relating to the castle. The results of the excavated test pits were able to quantify the extent of overburden covering the remains of the wall structures at the site. The evaluation unearthed rubble deposits without dressed hard stone or visible coursing and it is uncertain whether this level of preservation would survive as extant above ground edifices. it remains a possibility that the rubble ironstone is simply upcast wall rubble from the 1960s archaeological excavations.
