Abstract/Summary
Archaeological excavations were undertaken by MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) on land at Midland Road, Raunds from June to December 2016. The works were undertaken on behalf of CgMs Heritage (now RPS Group) for Kier Living Eastern. A small Bronze Age cemetery comprising five cremations was found in the eastern area of the site; another cremation had been identified during the preceding evaluation (Coates and Richmond 2010). Medieval settlement evidence was found on the site from the 11th century and included part of a field system with paddocks and enclosures. The western edge of the site was subsequently used as a manorial farm from the 13th to 16th century, and structures included two phases of dovecote, a malthouse, possible stable and a barn. Afterwards the site was used for agriculture with ridge and furrow cultivation from the late medieval period.
