Abstract/Summary

A programme of geotechnical ground investigations comprising borehole drilling, window sampling and machine-dug test-pitting was undertaken in advance of development on land at St Peter’s Waterside, St Peters Way, Northampton. Waterman Energy, Design and Environment commissioned Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd. to undertake the mitigation works. The investigations revealed that archaeological deposits of varying depths survived across the Site. Saxo-Norman pottery was recovered from a possible pit within a test pit located at the eastern area of the Site and possible evidence of the medieval town ditch was located within boreholes and window samples located on, or within the vicinity of the projected course of the medieval town ditch.
