Abstract/Summary
MOLA Northampton undertook archaeological excavation on land east of Hookham’s Path, Wollaston in advance of residential development. Archaeological remains dating to the Iron Age period were revealed. The remains comprised an Iron Age settlement with origins in the Early Iron Age period comprising roundhouses and an associated enclosure. There was an increase in activity during the Middle Iron Age with further enclosures established. Occupation was continuous into the later Middle Iron Age with new structures constructed and the enclosures re-cut. Several crouched inhumation pit burials were identified as well as areas of pitting, one of which contained the articulated remains of several animals. Two pits were identified that truncated earlier remains with a small assemblage of medieval and post-medieval pottery found.
