Title TELECOMS MAST ADJACENT TO THE A47 AT WELDON PARK, NORTH NORTHAMPTONSHIRE: AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL WATCHING BRIEF REPORT
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2024

Abstract/Summary

This report provides the results of an archaeological watching brief undertaken by AOC Archaeology between the 22nd and the 25th of July 2024. The work was commissioned by WHP Telecoms to provide an archaeological watching brief during the associated ground works for a single cable trench extending East from the pre-existing telecoms mast and measuring 80m in length, 0.25m in width and up to 0.60m in depth. The site is located within the National Grid Reference (NGR) SP 92903 89873, and the Little Weldon Roman Villa Scheduled Monument (List Entry Number: 1003898). The results of the watching brief revealed a series of modern deposits which can be related to the installation of the pre-existing telecoms mast, the construction of the adjacent main road, and the installation of the adjacent streetlamps. A clear stratigraphic sequence of these areas were recorded. There was no evidence of any archaeological remains within the layers observed. The results will be made available via the Archaeological Data Service (ADS) website through completion of an OASIS form (aocarcha1527249), and the site archive will be deposited with the Northamptonshire Archaeological Archive.
