Title | ARCHAEOLOGICAL SUPERVISION OF OVERHEAD POLE REMOVAL BETWEEN IRTHLINGBOROUGH AND THRAPSTON NORTHAMPTONSHIRE (IRTH 17) |
Author/Originator | Mark Peachey |
Date/Year | 2020 |
Abstract/Summary
Archaeological supervision was carried out on the removal of overhead poles between Irthlingborough and Thrapston, Northamptonshire. At the Scheduled Monument of Crow Hill near Irthlingborough, possibly an Iron Age hillfort, holes were machine excavated adjacent to three concrete overhead poles in order for them to be pushed over and removed. It was noted that two of the poles had been set into poor quality concrete. Although the holes were too dangerous to enter and record it was noted that only natural and topsoil deposits were revealed. No archaeological features were disturbed during the work. A further pole at Little Addington Roman villa was not removed under archaeological supervision as Historic England called a halt to the work. There were no finds.
