Abstract/Summary
SUMO GeoSurveys was commissioned to undertake a geophysical survey of an area outlined for residential development. This survey forms part of an archaeological investigation being undertaken by Witham Archaeology. The survey at Yelvertoft has identified evidence for former ridge and furrow cultivation along with a number of anomalies of possible archaeological interest. The comprise a number of ditch-like / bank-like anomalies, potential small enclosures and discrete responses; some may represent houses or other features associated with the medieval settlement which are also visible as earthworks. Numerous discrete anomalies and linear trends have an uncertain origin, while the location of an old pond is also visible.
