Title The Discovery of Saxon Sites Below Fieldwalking Scatters: Settlement Evidence at Brixworth and Upton
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1993

Abstract/Summary

Fieldwork in 1989 demonstrated that settlement features can lie below quite small scatters of saxon pottery discovered by fieldwalking. At Brixworth evidence of post hole buildings was discovered during construction of an underpass, while at Upton a sunken-featured building and other features were discovered as part of an Environmental Impact Assessment. A recticella glass bead found at Upton is an unusual fimd normally associated with high-status cemetery sites.
