Summary

Archaeological investigations during the construction of the Brixworth Bypass in 1989 discovered part of a Saxon settlement of 5th-9th century. The remains of two timber buildings, a boundary ditch and other features were identified.

Full Description

{1}Postholes, pits and gully within road corridor. 2 possible rectilinear structures similarily aligned along with gully. Sherd of Bronze age Urn in pit, all other pottery 6-7th century date.

{2} Part of a Saxon settlement site identified during the construction of the Brixworth Bypass. It consists of at least two timber posthole buildings, possibly set within an enclosure and at least one pit which had been backfilled with rubbish.
