Abstract/Summary
'Tanglewood' is a late medieval house of three bays which was substantially altered, probably in the 17th century. The two easternmost bays contained an open hall with a thatched cruck roof. Smoke blackening survives on the underside of the thatch as well as on the roof timbers. In the 17th century, stacks were erected against the gable walls, a winder staircase was built behind the hall stack, the north and south walls were heightened and south-facing first-floor dormer windows were inserted. A north-west wing possibly replaced an earlier service wing on the site of the adjoining property on the west.
