Summary

Two houses. Tanglewood is a late medieval house of three bays, substantially altered in the 17th century. The two easternmost bays contained an open hall with a thatched cruck roof. Stacks were built against the gable walls in the 17th century and a winder staircase inserted.

Full Description

{1} Two houses. Early C18th. Regular coursed limestone with thatch roof. Originally each of 2-unit plan. Single storey with attic. 5-window range of casements with glazing bars under wood lintels and one tripartite sash to right of centre. 2 eyebrow dormers to right and gabled half dormer to left. No.24 has C20 door under wood lintel to right. Brick and stone stacks at ridge and end. Evidence of 2 builds between houses. No.26 has C20 porch to rear. Interiors not inspected but noted as having ceiling beams.

{3} Cottage in the village of Great Doddington. Bulidings were recorded by RCHME in 1995. A former late Medieval open hall built in about C15th with a cruck framed roof of 3 bays and stone walls. Much altered in the C17th.

{4} Dendrochronological dating of the two A-frame cruck blades. The two dates matched each with the most likely date range for the felling of the timbers as AD 1390-1419 AD. A floor beam was found to have come from a tree felled in the late Spring-early Summer AD 1735.
