Abstract/Summary
Higgs and Hill Developments have commissioned Northamptonshire Archaeology to carry out recording action in association with the construction of a Business Park on land adjoining the M1 Motorway near Rothersthorpe Service Station, Northamptonshire. The area contains known Iron Age site comprising two cropmark enclosure complexes c.200m apart. Trial excavation was carried out on the site in 1989 by the former Contracts Section of the Northamptonshire Archaeology Unit (Shaw and O’Hara 1990). The excavations confirmed that the ditched enclosures were of Iron Age origin, possibly dating from the third century BC, and suggested that the potential existed for the recovery of building plans and other settlement evidence.
