Abstract/Summary
An archaeological watching brief was carried out between June 1st and 4th 1998 during soil removal and levelling prior to the construction of a new practice pitch for Rushden and Diamonds Football Club. The purpose of the watching brief was to record any archaeological features during the earth removal. Previous work on the site found ring ditches and a cremation which was dated to the late Bronze Age. The earth removing was not deep and the machining cause only very shallow rutting which meant that any archaeology present would not have been affected and would have survived in situ. The removal of hardcore in the south west corner cut into the subsoil but no pre-alluvium layers were exposed.
