Abstract/Summary
Land approximately 36ha in extent on the northern edge of Brackley, between the Halse Road and Northampton Road is being promoted for residential development with a review of the development plan. This desk-based assessment and discussions with Northamptonshire Heritage has established that there is some potential for archaeological remains to be found at the eastern end of the site, where a cemetery, provisionally dated to the Iron Age, was found in the adjacent field. No further archaeological work is recommended to fulfil the requirements of the Local Plan Review process. Current evidence does not suggest that sites of national importance or other sites of sufficient importance to merit in situ preservation will be present on the site and there is no compelling reason to expect there to be any archaeological remains on the western part of the site. It is therefore recommended that the archaeology of the site would be suitable addressed by an evaluation of the eastern part of the site, and this and any further work may be undertaken at a later date once a planning application is submitted.
