Description

The photo shows two wings of an orthodox Roman-British villa building superimposed on 3 circular structures which may possibly represent prehistoric monuments or be stone built circular foundations of unknown type. St Joseph sees only one corridor/wing to the villa making it one of the so-called ‘Basilican’ type. The second wing does however show relatively clearly in both photos. An unusual crop complex. {AM7 1972} A scatter of sherds over the site extended beyond the field ditch into the field to the west. A fair bit of stone present as well. {AM12 1980} As a result of the ploughing in of the field boundary there is a clearly defined stone spread lying at the top end of the scheduled area, across the line of the old boundary, and into what was another field to the south west. A minimal number of sherds was visible at this visit, but a number of bashed flints were seen over the villa site, across the ploughed-in boundary and extending eastwards outside the scheduled area. {AM107 1982}
