Description
Small motte, c.100ft diameter, ditch 25ft across. {AM7 1965} A low mound and ditch 2m high, summit 21m diameter. Ditch 4m wide, outer bank c.1m above ditch bottom. Ditch wet on north side. One thorn tree and some low scrub on mound. Small area of poaching on eastern slope, otherwise no other damage. Mound is a relatively insignificant feature as it stands but is clearly part of an extensive complex of earthworks, hollow ways and fish ponds which covers the higher slopes of the field. Mound is the possible forerunner to the castle mound (SAM13644) further up the hill to the east. {AM12 1979}
