Description

{1} Archaeological excavation was undertaken in July 1997 in advance of the construction of a telecommunications tower in the grounds of Sponne School, to fulfil an SNC planning condition . The site lay at the easternmost end of the school property on a small piece of waste ground between the car park and the boundary wall. A rectangular area 10m x 3.5m was opened. It revealed stratified deposits of late 1st to mid 2nd century date with later 4th century activity possibly related to refurbishment of the defences.
