ENN104630 - Land north of Rothwell, 2006-7 (Magnetometry survey)

{1} The detailed survey was conducted in 12 separate areas totalling 12.5ha. An extensive settlement complex, of presumed Iron Age to early Roman date, was found near the northwest corner of the site. This was overlain by anomalies representing post medieval agriultural features, including a barn, a trackway and several field boundaries. Apart from medieval ridge and furrow cultivation, no further significant archaeological remains were found elsewhere at the site. {3} The project was conducted in two phases. The first, in October 2006, covered 43ha, and the second, in January 2007, an additional 18ha. All surveyable parts of the site were investigated by magnetometer scanning and a sample area of c 15ha was surveyed in detail. [additional area to the east not digitised]
