Description

{1} Archaeological evaluation undertaken by Northamptonshire Archaeology on land at Collingtree, Northampton. Twenty of the 132 excavated trenches produced archaeological evidence. The evaluation identified the remains of an enclosed Romano-British, small scale settlement sited on the first terrace above Wootton Brook to the north. The combination of the geophysical survey plot and the trenching suggests that although there is some evidence for modification and development within the settlement site, occupation is relatively restricted in scale. The archaeological remains are generally constrained to the eastern half of one of the evaluated fields within the development area. Two outlying features were also recorded beyond this settlement area, neither is thought to be related to its use, one dated to the Iron Age and the other, although undated, could be from a significantly later period.
