Monument record 3528/0/1 - Probable Iron Age trackway

{1} An intermittent set of linear features extends eastwards along the valley side between sites A and B. They probably represent fragments of a trackway or a series of trackways, linking the two sites.

{2} Trench 12: a north-west to south-east running ditch measuring 4.4m wide x 0.4m deep, and with a shallow, irregular profile. It corresponded with the northernmost of two features identified during geophysical survey. The fill contained 15 sherds of middle or late Iron Age pottery (C4th to C1st BC) as well as 4 very small sherds of Romano-British pottery (C1st AD). Sample 4 produced four unidentifiable animal bone fragments and some charcoal.
The geophysical anomalies interpreted to represent the trackway further to the west proved to be caused by geological variations as the other trenches targeted on this possible feature found no archaeological features.
