Description

Site code: HOO14. In November 2014, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land at Homestead Farm, Northamptonshire. The evaluation of fifty-one trenches recorded a complex of Iron Age enclosure and ring ditches in the southern part of the site's western field, plus associated pits, postholes and smaller ditches. A series of substantial, intercutting Iron Age ditches was also present in the northern part of this field. A limited number of minor ditches, none of which contained any artefactual material, was recorded in the site's eastern field. This corresponds with the results of a previous geophysical survey. It is probable that the enclosures and associated features in the southern part of the western field are the remains of an Iron Age settlement. There was no evidence of Roman activity associated with the immediately adjacent Watling Street or the known Roman villa at Bradlem Pond. Information from OASIS Online Form.
