Description

Project: NE3424 {1} Excavation revealed two settlement foci. The south-western focus, near to Brick Kiln Road, was characterised by ditched enclosures, two drying ovens, pits and potential post-built structures largely dating to the late Saxon and medieval periods. The north-eastern focus, adjacent to Brooks Road, comprised late Saxon enclosures, pits and a potential post-built structure, superseded by a more extensive medieval settlement, including at least thirteen stone buildings, trackways, wells and cobbled pitched stone surfaces.
