Description
{1} Field evaluation comprising 43 trial trenches targeted on geophysical anomalies and 'blank' areas. Geophysical survey suggested that the site had potential for Iron Age and Roman settlement remains. Archaeological features were recorded 18 of the trenches. Mid-late Iron Age activity was identified on the northern part of the site, although there was no evidence for it continuing into the Roman period, there may have been some re-use in the Early Saxon period. Extensive fluvial deposits in the south of the site may date to the Iron Age and Roman periods. Mid-late Iron Age pitting may relate to specialised activities. Part of a stone building was recorded that correlated with a building marked on a late 19th century map.
