Description

The magnetometer survey has recorded numerous magnetic responses that have been interpreted as being of archaeological interest. The clearest anomalies have all the components of a probable kiln and associated features; such an interpretation is strengthened by the fact a post medieval brick kiln was found some 350m to the west is earlier excavations. Other magnetic responses are thought to be of possible archaeological interest largely based on references in the HER to former watermills and windmills, water management and industrial activity. The anomalies could be associated with elements of such activity. There are numerous less clear responses whose origin remains uncertain. Ploughing effects, possible geological variations and a length of pipe have also been identified.
