Description
In January/February 2022, KDK Archaeology Ltd undertook an Archaeological Observation, Investigation & Recording at the Former Builder’s Yard, Queen Street, Weedon, Northamptonshire. Prior to the development of four dwellings and a garage, the ground had to be reduced up to 1.20m for the footings of the house plots 1-3. Within this area, a large, irregular shaped pit was uncovered which could be identified after the archaeological investigation as a Roman stone quarry. A separate, smaller quarry pit was located further south-west and another one north of the large quarry pit. In addition to the quarry pits, two Romano-British ditches were uncovered, one near the northern boundary of the site and the other one in the footing trenches of house plot 4.
