Abstract/Summary

In January and February 2022, KDK Archaeology Ltd undertook an Archaeological Observation, Investigation and Recording at the Former Builder’s Yard, Queen Street, Weedon, Northamptonshire. Prior to the development of four dwellings and a garage, the ground had to be reduced up to 1.20m for the footings of house plots 1-3. Within this area, a large, irregular shaped stone quarry pit was uncovered which was probably Roman in origin. A separate, smaller pit was located further south-west and a third to the north. In addition to the quarry pits, two Romano-British ditches were uncovered, one near the northern boundary of the site and the other in the footing trenches of one of the houses. The recovered pottery was dated 2nd to 3rd century, while some animal bone was identified as cattle and sheep/goat.
