Description

Mechanical stripping was carried out under archaeological supervision to the top of the archaeological horizon. Two ephemeral gullies that pre-dated medieval/post-medieval furrows, were undated, though the fill of one of these yielded a small quantity of fired clay that may have been associated with metal working. Two small, discrete pits, some 25m apart, each yielded small assemblages of late Neolithic pottery, though no further, associated features were identified. The site was dominated by a series of north-east/south-west aligned furrows of medieval/early post-medieval date. The Neolithic pits were unexpected but there was no evidence of later prehistoric activity, whilst the furrows provided the only evidence of medieval/post-medieval activity.
