Abstract/Summary
Between 21st and 30th November 2022 MOLA Northampton carried out an archaeological strip, map and sample excavation on a 0.27ha area of land at Cromwell Farm, Haselbech Road, Naseby, Northamptonshire, prior to the development of a glamping facility. Towards the north-western edge of the excavation area were two ephemeral gullies that pre-dated medieval/post-medieval furrows. Although undated, the fill of one of these contained a small assemblage of fired clay that may have been associated with metal working. Two small, discrete pits, one towards the north-west of the excavation area and the other, some 25m to the south-east, were also recorded. Each pit yielded small assemblages of late Neolithic pottery, quite a significant find for the area, though no further, associated features were identified. The area of excavation was dominated by a series of parallel furrows of medieval/early post-medieval date, on broadly north-east/south-west alignments. In addition to the Neolithic pottery, the only finds were post-medieval pottery recovered from subsoil and topsoil deposits and the small assemblage of fired clay.
