Description

Current proposals by English Heritage to recreate part of the late 17th century garden design have prompted a reappraisal of the remains of Kirby Hall's gardens through new archaeological excavations which began in September 1987. The work is intended to identify any constraints to construction in addition to providing specific details of the gardens development and former appearance. The results from the first stage of investigation to November 1988 demonstrate the range and types of evidence which may be preserved in an historic garden.
