Description

{1} Watching brief undertaken during the early construction phase of the Brigstock Bypass. There were two objectives: to record any archaeological sites and to locate and record the Gartree Roman road. Trenches were cut mechanically on the presumed alignment of the road before any earthmoving took place. No trace of the road was found. Much of the road crossed heavy clay and only one new settlement site, which was predominantly Roman in date, was identified.
