Description
{1} Site code: MH98. Excavation of the site of a new swimming pool recorded Saxon and medieval pits. No evidence for the postulated Dominican friary was revealed. Earlier deposits had been severely damaged, but two pits of 10th century date attest to late Saxon activity in this north-eastern corner of the early town. In the mid 13th century probable quarry pits were dug, being infilled by the 14th century. In the 17th century garden soil had accumulated and later activity related to backyard activity associated with properties fronting onto King Street.
